Prof. TIAN Wei, the former President of Beijing Jishuitan Hospital and the Chinese Orthopaedic Association (COA) and a fellow of Chinese Academy of Engineering, was taken away for investigation on suspicion of corruption. This is a shocking news for the whole orthopedic community since the English edition of Global Times has posted a long article on this affair. This is the desecration of life of a doctor, president of hospital, fellow of academy, and former president of COA. On an annual conference of COA, I saw him walking close from afar and surrounded by all the device sponsors. At that time, I told my colleague that he would definitely be caught for investigation because of his superiority and arrogance which will lead to the doom of his life. That's why we never associate with this kind of big shots like him or cooperate with associations for they are too dangerous. On the day when TIAN Wei was taken away, the Supreme Inspection and Discipline Inspection Group found 230 million Chinese yuan, 20 million US dollars, and 20 million Japanese yen in his residence. And Tian was found to possess a quadrangle courtyard in Beijing, and villas in Beverly Hills, Upper East Side in Manhattan, and Switzerland. How greedy he must be to get himself in this situation! I have told many doctors that your job as doctors is the best merit in your lives. If you dredge for other limitless profits, you will get yourself in trouble and can never get rid of it. This should not be our lives. In fact, doctors should not be billionaires, because wealth can eating up people's good quality and requires people to have an upright personality to resist its temptation. Wealth can always cause disasters. During the three years of pandemic, some experts hoped that the pandemic would never end. How could they put all people's lives at risk just to dredge for profits from the disaster? Actually the best thing in one's career is to develop steadily. We should love our career while benefit others. How many people work hard for the hospitals? How many people want to improve the healthcare system in China? We have merely around 30,000 days in our lives, so everyday is precious and important. Why should we ask for that much money? It's totally unnecessary. What we should pursue in our lives should be good health, an interesting soul, a rich knowledge, a kind heart, a noble personality, and a happy family. Thanks to the prosperity of my beloved motherland, I could have the chance to work with 186 world-class key academic leaders who are willing to improve our country, and we could work for our country.
