On December 20, the Department of Neurology of Jiangmen Wuyi Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine invited Prof. Bähr, Fellow of German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, Founding Director of Heart & Brain Center Göttingen and the Director of the Department of Neurology of University Medical Center Göttingen, to have an in-depth academic exchange with the team of the Department of Neurology. The meeting was moderated by Prof. SHI Qing, Director of the Department of Neurology. The meeting not only demonstrated the outstanding performance in international exchanges of the hospital but also marked an important step forward in the hospital's talent cultivation. In her welcome address, Prof. YU Shangzhen, Vice President of the hospital, reflected on the profound cooperation with Prof. Bähr in recent years: During his visits in 2023 and in 2024, Prof. Bähr made top-level planning and design for the clinical, scientific and teaching work of the department, which provided a significant boost to the specialty construction and talent cultivation of the department. Since July 2024, Doctor CHEN Jianhua of the Department of Neurology has been pursuing his doctoral degree under the guidance of Prof. Bähr in Germany, marking the first time a doctor from the department has studied at a top German university and,a new milestone in Sino-German cooperation in medical talent cultivation. Prof. Bähr shared the world’s most cutting-edge research results on the topic of “ Update in Stroke”, from the stroke risk factors, the clinical application of new thrombolytic drugs to the timing of anticoagulant therapy. The content provided valuable references for the team of Neurology to keep updated and optimize their treatment plans. Following the lecture, Doctor. GUO Fu then reported a complex stroke case in English, demonstrating the clinical expertise of the department as a national advanced stroke center. Doctor CHEN Jianhua then shared the progress of his doctoral studies at the Heart & Brain Center Göttingen of University Medical Center Göttingen, including the framework and the latest progress of his thesis project. President Yu and Director Shi highly praised Doctor Chen for his excellent performance, and they had high expectations for his future research, clinical and teaching work after returning to ChinaPresident Yu further pointed out that Doctor Chen’s growth fully reflected Prof. Bähr’s excellent ability and unique concepts in talent cultivation. She said that Prof. Bähr not only focuses on the improvement of academic ability but also pays attention to the comprehensive development of young doctors. This kind of cultivating mode provides a valuable reference for the development of medical talents in China. The successful organization of this conference not only demonstrated the international vision of Jiangmen Wuyi Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine in academic development but also showed the innovative practice of Chinese hospitals in cultivating “clinician-scientist”. In the future, Jiangmen Wuyi Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine will continue to deepen the cooperation with Prof. Bähr and University Medical Center Göttingen and help more excellent doctors get visible on the international stage.
