Over the past three decades, large pharmaceutical, medical consumable, and device manufacturers from Europe and America have gained a significant share of China’s market with minimal investment, reaping enormous profits while demonstrating greed. They have drawn many hospital presidents, department heads, and even young doctors into corruption. These companies have generated most of their profits from the Chinese market while employing Chinese staff at minimal wages, ultimately lining the pockets of their investors and the Wall Street magnates. Chinese pharmaceutical, medical consumable, and device manufacturers should uphold their conscience by refraining from spending vast sums on extravagant business dinners, entertainment, and superficial networking activities, which is actually a low-end, pirate-like business model. Instead, they should invest more in research and development, have the confidence to innovate their own products, and earn a reasonable profit. If you provide genuine value, there is absolutely no need for any spending on superficial networking efforts. Each of us should contribute to our great nation, to China’s healthcare, and to China’s hospitals. In the recent round of drug procurement, many major European and American pharmaceutical companies intentionally withheld their bids, aiming to put pressure on the healthcare authorities. They used to impose these prices mercilessly on patients, but patients come to the hospital for healthcare, not to be exploited. The key issue is that no one in the industry dares to speak out against them, and for years, these unspoken rules have prevailed. Now, these large European and American pharmaceutical companies are deliberately withholding their bids, effectively sending a strong message to Chinese hospitals: "We won’t supply, let’s see how you handle it". Their era of excessive profits is over, and they are not accustomed to it. They still want everything, how could that be possible? If your medications are truly valuable, you don’t need to bribe any doctors to have them prescribe it. The problem arises because there are too many ineffective drugs on the market, relying only on kickback-driven sales. These insatiable companies only want to make excessive profits for a lifetime, without any intention of contributing to patients or Chinese hospitals. How do we judge which hospital is the best in a city? The hospital that advances healthcare and truly prioritizes the people is the best hospital in that city.
