It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that we mourn the passing of Prof. Christina Stukenborg-Colsman, an German renowned foot and ankle surgery expert and the Chief of the Department of Foot and Ankle Surgery at the Orthopaedic Clinic, Hannover Medical School at Diakovere Annastift. Prof. Stukenborg-Colsman sadly passed away on March 24-25, at the age of 57.Her departure represents a tremendous loss not only for German foot and ankle surgery community, but also for us, as we have lost a respected friend and partner. Prof. Stukenborg-Colsman was highly esteemed in German foot and ankle surgery community. Through her exceptional expertise, forward-looking academic vision, and steadfast clinical dedication, she had guided the Department of Foot and Ankle Surgery to emerge as a leading foot and ankle surgery center in northern Germany. As a core member of key academic organizations like the German Association for Foot and Ankle (DAF) and the European Society for Foot and Ankle Surgery (EFAS), she devoted herself to academic exchange and medical education, perfectly embodying the integration of professional competence and social responsibility. Our cooperation with Prof. Stukenborg-Colsman began in March 2020.At that time, the COVID-19 pandemic was ravaging the world, and offline exchanges between Chinese and German foot and ankle surgeons faced significant challenges. However, despite the dire situation, she maintained close contact with Chinese colleagues and actively participated in many Sino-German webinars on foot and ankle surgery, demonstrating her consistent professionalism and sincerity for collaboration. In September 2023, Prof. Stukenborg-Colsman joined Gloryren’s visiting professorship program for the first time and visited Foshan Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, where she provided invaluable guidance to the host team. She also attended the The 3rd Sino-Euro Global Forum on Hospital Management, specialty Construction & Talent Cultivation where she shared profound insights on talent training. During the event, she showed particular concern for the growth of female surgeons, inspiring them with warmth and strength. Over the years of cooperation, Prof. Stukenborg-Colsman left us with a deep impression through her vast professional knowledge, rich clinical experience, and calm, steadfast demeanor. She was always humble, passionate, and composed, patiently listening to others’ opinions and caring for the growth of young doctors. With exceptional clinical expertise and exemplary professional ethics, she consistently prioritized the well-being of the patients and was deeply committed to nurturing future medical talents. Meanwhile, she valued family and maintained a balance between career and personal life, showing the strength and tenderness of a modern woman in medicine. At this time, we extend our deepest condolences to Prof. Stukenborg-Colsman’s family, friends, and colleagues. Though she has passed, her invaluable academic legacy and enduring spirit will continue to inspire the next generations of doctors and drive the exchange and development of the orthopedics field.
