The 6th Sino-Euro Global Forum on Hospital Management, Specialty Construction & Talent Cultivation 2026 will be held in Wuxi, China, from November 14 to 15. Wuxi is an ancient city with a history spanning over 2,200 years. During the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, it was here that Fan Li, renowned as the wealthiest man of ancient China at that time, and the legendary beauty Xi Shi once drifted across Lihu Lake, leaving behind a romantic love story that has endured through the ages. During the Republican Era, Wuxi achieved remarkable industrial growth under the leadership of prominent local elites. Its annual industrial output once ranked third nationwide, following only Shanghai and Guangzhou. At its peak, the city was home to over 60,000 industrial workers, second only to Shanghai. Notably, Wuxi accomplished all of this without foreign concessions or foreign capital, relying solely on national industry and entrepreneurship, which is an achievement rarely seen in modern China. Over the past century, Wuxi has stood as a true cradle of Chinese national industry and commerce. The Rong family of Wuxi, in particular, made significant contributions to the nation by donating aircraft, supplies, and medicine during the War of Resistance Against Japan, the Chinese Civil War, and the Korean War. Historically, Wuxi has been a city that celebrates prosperity and culture. Nanchang Street during the Ming and Qing dynasties was illuminated with colorful lanterns and filled with music and festivity. Huishan Ancient Town is home to 118 ancestral halls from various dynasties, which is an unparalleled cultural heritage in China. The Qing emperor visited Jiangnan six times, and had been to Huishan seven times during his visits. Jichang Garden represents the pinnacle of classical Jiangnan garden design. In academia, the Qian family produced a remarkable lineage of scholars, including Qian Mu, Qian Xuesen, Qian Weichang, and Qian Zhongshu. In 1902, Zhou Shunqing, the prototype of a character in Cao Yu’s famous play Thunderstorm, established Zhouxinli. Meanwhile, the Donglin Academy, associated with Gu Xunzhang, is remembered for its famous motto: “ The sound of wind, rain, and reading fills the ears; affairs of family, state, and the world concern us all.” Wuxi has long been the Top one city in China's GDP rankings. It is also known as the “Capital of the Internet of Things” and an “International City of Music.” The city boasts Mount Xishan and Lihu, while every spring, more than 30,000 cherry trees bloom at Yuantouzhu on the shores of Taihu Lake, making it one of the world’s top three cherry blossom viewing destinations. Also, just 50 kilometers away, Kunshan hosts over 500 leading German manufacturing companies. Wuxi is only two-hour drive from Shanghai and one hour from Suzhou, with both an airport and high-speed rail connections. In November 2026, under gentle sunshine and a mild breeze, the golden leaves of 600-year-old ginkgo trees will bring warmth to our shoulders. At that time, nine faculty members including members of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, key academic leaders and renowned scientists in Europe, will gather in Wuxi. They will join Party secretaries and hospital presidents of top-tier Chinese hospitals, clinical chiefs, administrative heads and outstanding young doctors to help improve the healthcare in China. This is our beloved motherland. Our New China was built through the sacrifices of our forebears including my dearest late father. Today, we’ve achieved more than just convenience of modern living, which means upstairs, downstairs, electric lights, and telephones. As the world’s second-largest economy, every inch of our land bears witness to their dedication and struggle. We devote ourselves to lifelong learning and the pursuit of excellence in medicine. We remember history and our predecessors with gratitude. In this lifetime, we cherish those who value us and sincerely appreciate those who have helped us along the way.
