From the 1950s to the 1970s, China focused on developing primary medical care, equipping each organization a hospital or a paramedical room. In rural areas, there are village doctors offering basic medical service. It is these primary healthcare providers who guarantee the health of the people efficiently. In 1978, the total health expenditure in China was 10 billion yuan. With a population of 1 billion, per capita health spending was only 10 yuan in China. This explains the greatness of primary health care.
